Becoming a magician: Getting started with the arcane arts of code generationMobile DevelopmentIsaac UdyAs software engineers, we spend a lot of time writing code. Unfortunately, some of that code is repetitive and boring boilerplate. Writing boilerplate is not fun, so we often use third-party libraries that perform code generation, such as Dagger/Hilt or Room, to make our lives easier (and more fun). These libraries can do powerful things for us and dramatically improve productivity. At first glance, code generation can seem difficult to understand and reason about. It's often viewed as "magic" that library authors use, rather than an accessible tool we could use in our projects. But anyone can tap into the magic of code generation! In this session, Isaac will walk through the basics of code generation on Android. He will discuss which tools can be used for code generation, what sort of problems code generation can solve, and share some tips and tricks. After this session, you should feel confident experimenting with the magic of code generation in your project!
